Many countries with large population like Indonesia face the challenge of providing education at all level which is accessible to people from different socio-economic backgrounds, ethnicities and ages. Those countries look at open and distance learning system as one of the alternative to provide education especially to those who, because of one thing or another, cannot participate in the face-to-face regular classroom. With the rapid change of knowledge and technology, the education system in large populated countries has to consider the innovative way to increase the capacity as well as the quality of education system to cater to the need of large number of students.

For such purpose, SEAMEO SEAMOLEC and Universitas Terbuka offer the International Seminar on

Objective

The goal of the seminar is to share the latest developments in Southeast Asian Countries in accelerating the provision of quality education through open And Distance learning system. In detail, the objectives of the seminar are:

• To share experiences in the management of open and distance learning system to accelerate the educational quality and quantity
• To identify and discuss issues related to utilization of information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure in the open and distance learning system to accelerate the educational quality and quantity.
• To identify various mechanisms of cooperation among institutions in the effort to accelerate the quality and quantity of education through open and distance learning system
• To share experiences in the development of open and distance learning materials and programs
• To identify the issues in the human resource development for institutions in order to accelerate the educational quality and quantity through open and distance learning system.

Open and distance learning has been recognized as an effective solution to improve the provision of the educational system.
